DEZZY HOLLOW

Top West Coast and G-Funk Rap Artist

Meet one of Southern California’s top rap artists bringing a fresh, but not new, sound to hip hop. Growing up in Oceanside, about 35 minutes north of San Diego, Dezzy Hollow has always been around and influenced by West Coast culture. Since a young age, Dezzy Hollow has been exposed to various sounds and genres of music, but none seemed to standout more than hip-hop music and the unique sound of G-Funk.

Already with a solid catalog dating back to over seven years, while also working with some of West Coast hip-hop’s and Latin hip hop’s elite artists, the grind has put Dezzy Hollow in a position among the ranks within the West Coast rap scene. With hit songs like “EBT Boi”, “Won’t Do”, and “Nothin’ Easy”, and the release of over five projects since 2015, Dezzy Hollow has now released his latest project, One Nation Under Funk, representing for the loss art form of G-Funk music.

Already making his mark in the game, Deezy Hollow is now presenting his latest album One Nation Under the Funk, bridging the gap between Old-School and the New-School with a 2022 G-Funk vibe. Set to drop on April 15, the album incorporates features from OG’s like WC (Dub-C), Lil Rob, and Suga Free, as well as buzzing rap group Blue Bucks Clan.

Meet and Get To Know Dezzy Hollow

Kulture Vulturez: Growing up what type of influences, or what role, did music have on your life?

Dezzy Hollow: Growing up, music was something I found interest in early in my life. I had a lot of influence of Soul, Funk, and Rock and Roll from my father. He would put me on to good music, and I would just listen to the melodies and the lyrics. I started creating my own music in high school. There were a lot of my older homies and people I knew doing it, so I followed it too. I don’t think people expected me to take it this far.

Kulture Vulturez: Since you enter the West Coast hip hop scene, how important has it been for you to stay original to your self? What is the importance of having your own style?

Dezzy Hollow: My style, for me, showcases how I grew up, my background, and where I’m from – there’s no one else that could replicate it. It’s important to stay true to yourself and your style because it makes you who you are, it makes you unique.

Kulture Vulturez: How could you describe, in your opinion, what is West Coast Hip Hop for those who are unaware?

Dezzy Hollow: This new type of Funk, is street music with melodic hooks and bridges, telling stories with West Coast influence.

Kulture Vulturez: Breakdown your up coming album One Nation Under the Funk? How did you come up with the concept and what can listeners expect?

Dezzy Hollow: “One Nation Under The Funk” is a 15 song album with features like Suga Free, WC, and other artists that have made a big impact in West Coast and Chicano music, like Lil Rob and Baby Bash. I studied a lot of Funk from the ’80s and ’90s and put a twist on it to create a new sound. You can expect a variety of flows, switches, and melodic hooks to ride too.

Kulture Vulturez: What has it been like working with so many legends and what do you feel you learned the most from them?

Dezzy Hollow: Working with such artists that have impacted music in their own way and made their imprint with their unique style was an experience. It was a lot of encouragement in a way, I felt I really have my own style and I am ready to imprint it into the History of Funk and where it’s going. They solidified me in my eyes. After years of working and pushing my music, I finally opened opportunities from just hustling consistently. Anything’s possible if you keep to it.

Kulture Vulturez: What are some previous projects of yours that are a must to check out to catch new listeners up on your music?

Dezzy Hollow: My last project “Can U Handle The Funk” is a great introduction to this new Funk Era. It’s like the first episode of the series, it’s a good way to dive into my music.

Kulture Vulturez: What is next for you that people should be on the lookout for?

Dezzy Hollow: I’m planning on working with some greats and bringing back that nostalgia of Funk, so I appreciate those that are here to see it. I’ll be lining up some show dates for the year and announcing it soon- I’m bringing the Funk with me.
