Dreadrock
Next Up Top Chicago Rapper
Coming out of the West Side of Chicago in a ‘hood known as Lex Block, which is short for Lexington Street, a street that stretches from California Ave. and continues pass Pulaski, is a rap artist that is on the rise that goes by the name of Dreadrock.
The life of growing up in Chicago, a city where many experience multiple aspects of life that the average person does not, led to Dreadrock getting started in music as he claims making music was “the best way to express my emotions once my friends started dying”.
Growing up listening to and being inspired by artists like 50 Cent and Jay-Z, Dreadrock does his best to separate himself from the rest of Chicago rappers. When asked what can listeners gain from listening to his music, Dreadrock replies “life experience and motivation”.
Dreadrock – You Can Be Whatever
A perfect example of what to expect from listening to the West Side artist are two songs, You Can Be Whatever and I Remember, which are Deadrock’s two favorite songs as they represent his struggle. Why those songs represent his journey in life, they also provide much inspiration and touch on real life situations that mostly anyone can relate through his stories.
When asked what is the hardest part about being an artist from Chicago, Dreadrock states “the city only support your music once you popping, a lot of hate, plus you must live your raps”. But unlike most Chicago artists, his music spreads a message strictly through his own experiences, while others may often exaggerate or rap through the life of others.
While the rising Chicago rapper has a few projects that have already been released, two must check out albums are his latest Lex Block and RocketPower2.
