In one of the world’s greatest countries, a country that has a history that dates back centuries, a country that has contribute much to today’s society, is now a country that has a music scene of Greek rappers that have infiltrated hip hop and the rap world.

With Greek hip hop being only around for a few decades, the rise of rappers from Greece has been a sight to see. The early days of Greek rap music consisted of hip hop groups and solo artists like FF.C, Active Member, Terror X Crew, Razastarr, Stixoima, NEVMA, Imiskoumbria, the first lady of Greek rap Sadahzinia, Zontanoi Nekroi, Babylona, Eisvoleas, 12os Pithikos, and multiple others that emerged into Greece’s public eye throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

While there may have been a glimpse of hip hop in Greece during the 1980s, the true existence of Greek rap music was solidified during the 1990s and continued its growth well into the 2000s and 2010s. Now, Greek hip hop is one of the country’s most popular forms of music and entertainment and has truly exploded from its early days of existence.

From record labels and brands, like Capital Records, Above The Hood, Panik Records, Mad House, Trapsion Entertainment, and others, pushing dozens of Greek rappers, to television stations like MAD TV displaying the biggest names in hip hop, to the often collaboration with the top rappers from Greece working together, there have been a number of tools to produce the growth of Greek hip hop.

With artists like Light, nicknamed Nero Greco, known for Ποιός Eίμαι (Who Am I), “Voodo,” “Mosca,” and Πέτα τα (Throw Them Away), or vets and OGs like Toquel, Hawk, and SNIK, who became the first faces of today’s generation of Greek rap music, Greece’s modern pop and urban culture runs through Greek hip hop. Rappers like Mad Clip, despite his unfortunate death has continued a legacy living through songs like “Kinitro,” “Megistanas,” and his latest album, the classic Money and Drugs Can’t Live in Poverty, are the main reason that rap music in Greece has held a top position among Europe’s top hip hop markets.
