Dublin Ireland Gangs Map

Dublin has a long history, with communities being occupied for centuries. From the 1930s to the 1970s, construction expanded the city with new neighborhoods on the outskirts from the inner city. While a good and safe city, for the most part, certain areas, primarily housing estates (housing projects), have been home to Dublin Ireland gangs.

Gangs, which are at times made up of both White and Black members, or solely White or are solely Black like D15 in Blanchardstown, as non-Irish citizens make up 17% of the population, contributing to the city’s multicultural fabric.

The most notorious areas are located on the North Side. During the periods of the 1980s and 1990s, when poverty, crime, and drugs were prevalent, areas like Crumlin, Drimnagh, Jobstown, Merchants Quay, or Sheriff Road had moments of crime and street and illicit activity. But today, many have seen improvement over time through local investment and gentrification.

Despite the improvements, the recent global rise of Drill Rap music has given a new identity to numerous of youths throughout the city, bringing a new movement of Dublin gangs to the forefront.

Dublin Ireland “‘Hoods”

Darndale, originally developed in the 1970s as low-rise housing estates for low-income residents, began experiencing a decline by the 1980s. The 1990s saw an increase in drugs, gangs, and crime, further impacting the neighborhood. Today, it is considered one of the most reputable and notorious areas in Dublin, with sections like Moatview and Bunratty.

Ballymun, established in the 1960s for working-class families, was based around high-rise housing estates with several thousand units. Unlike other housing estates in the city, it initially served its purpose but by the 1980s faced many problems with drugs and crime. Eventually, the Ballymun Flats were demolished in the late 1990s and early 2000s, leading to revitalization of the community.

Finglas, with its multiple sections, centers around Finglas West, which has long held a notable reputation on the North Side. Built in the 1950s, the community grew as housing estates attracted thousands of new residents. While Finglas East is considered the more nicer area, Finglas West remained the heart of the streets in Finglas.

Cabra West, another North Side neighborhood, was known for its rough reputation, particularly in the 1990s. It featured some of the city’s earliest housing estates, built in the 1930s. Over time, the area has improved and undergone gentrification, although sections like Broombridge remain the same.

In Tallaght, sections such as Avonbeg Road and Millbrook Lawns were highly street active due to the once drug and heroin epidemic, alongside other crimes, starting in the 1970s and continuing through the 1980s and 1990s. However, the area has improved much over time.

Ballyfermot, particularly active during the 1980s and 1990s, faced numerous challenges but has seen significant improvement, with some areas now quiet and even gentrified. Cherry Orchard, built during the 1950s, has often been the main section of Ballyfermot that has focal point of Dublin gangs, drugs, and crime in the area.

Corduff, an isolated area in the northwest of the city, consists mostly of housing estates. Infamously run by the Westies in the 1990s, and possibly from the 1980s to the 2000s, Corduff was a focal point for drug dealing in Dublin and frequently appeared in the media.

These areas are among the most well-known of the notorious neighborhoods and homes of Dublin Ireland gangs. While some may have been overlooked, it’s important to note that the city as a whole isn’t dangerous, just certain sections, especially around housing estates or streets like Parnell Street and Sheriff Street back in the day, can be sketchy. Since the peak of street crimes and illegal activity in the 1980s and 1990s, gentrification, investment, and improvements have taken place many of the once reputable neighborhoods.
