The recent rise of Swedish gangs has been greatly publicized and highlighted, especially in the city of Stockholm. The largest city, and most known and popular one, in Sweden is also home to over a dozen gangs, or networks, roaming throughout Stockholm County.
Sweden, or Stockholm for now, is very segregated with immigrants and foreign born residents living in separate neighborhoods that are dominated by a immigrant population. All while Swedes live in neighborhoods that a greatly dominated by Swedes or native born.
Sweden’s immigrant population first began in the 1950s following World War II. During this time mostly migrants from nearby European countires came into the country. But beginning in the 1980s and 1990s, asylum seekers and other immigrants, from places like Iran, Iraq, Somali, Bosnians, Turkish, Greeks,or Serbian, began to move into Sweden’s large cities.
From the 1980s to the 2010s the country saw a great wave of Middle Eastern, East African, and Southeast Europeans (The Balkans). Before today’s era there were organized crime, also there were biker gangs like Hell’s Angels and the Bandidos, who are still a player in today’s landscape. But since the 2010s there has been a great rise of Swedish gangs within the numerous of low income communities.

History of Stockholm/Sweden “‘Hoods”
These communities, which were built around the time of Sweden’s miljonprogrammet (Million Programme) of construction large complexes to house the working class during the 1960s and 1970s. Home to a number of Allmännyttan (Public Utility), or public housing projects, these areas would eventually house many of Stockholm’s and Sweden’s immigrant and foreign born community.
On the North Side of Stockholm, there is Rinkeby, Rissne, Hagalund, Tensta, Hässelby, or the two sections of Tureberg and Edsberg in Sollentuna. The South Side is home to Dalen, Jordbro, Östberga, Farsta, Skärholmen, Bredäng, and many more. Also not leave out Botkyrka’s Norsborg, Fittja, Alby, and Tumba neighborhoods, Södertälje’s Ronna and Saltskog, or Upplands-Bro Bro community.
All of these areas have produced gangs and organized groups that of oten dealt in narcotics trafficking, fraud, exotortion, and violence, from stabbings and shootings to car and home bombings. Going along with the seek to profit from monterial gains, some can see how the Drill rap scene of America has had an influence on the streets of Sweden.
Some of the biggest players have been Foxtrot and Rumba, who activities not only consists of the influx of millions of dollars worth drugs, but political and government connections with several Middle East countries to hoping to influence and push their agenda abroad.
While Foxtrot has no specific stronghold, most other gangs are located in specific neighborhoods. The Norsborg Network in the Norsborg area of Botkyrka, the Zero Network of Jordbro, the Dalen Network of Dalen, the Östberga Network of Östberga, Shottaz and Death Patrol of Rinkeby, the Lejonens of Hässelby, or the Head Shot Liga of Tensta.
