The city of Los Angeles and communities throughout L.A. County have built a long reputation of gangs and affiliations that have become very influential to the rest of the world. With the Crips starting off as the East Side Crips, the West Side Crips, and Compton Crips, or Pirus beginning on Piru Street in Compton, gangs of Los Angeles would eventually reach almost every urban population and every street in the hoods of America.

Today, Bloods and Crips are not similar as previous generations, especially the demographics of Los Angeles County are greatly changing with only a few all-black strongholds left in the entire metropolitan region. Hispanic gangs, which are various factions under the Sureno umbrella, are lesser known, but there presence is definitely felt as there numbers are greatly increasing in places like Compton and South Central.
