List of the Best Slovakia Hip Hop Artists

In the heart of Central Europe, Slovak rappers and the Slovakia hip hop scene may be overshadowed by much larger neighboring countries, but the creativity and the artistry are just as good, if not better, as anywhere else in Europe. A rap scene highlighted by top Slovak rappers like Rytmus, Majk Spirit, Separ, Kali, and a handful of others, shines the light on the global expansion of hip hop music.

Traditionally, Slovakia has always had a unique culture in music, consisting of popular genres like folk music, Europe’s best opera singers, unique instruments distinctive solely to the country of Slovakia, and a history that dates to medieval times. But now there is a new chapter in the story of Slovakian music, hip hop music of creative, innovative, and talented Slovakia hip hop artists.

As mentioned, Slovakia is not the most well-known European country, which goes the same for the Slovakia hip hop scene, but there has been a presence of Slovak rappers since the 1990s. From the 1990s to the early 2000s, some of the prominent pioneers of Slovakia’s hip hop scene have been artists like Kontrafakt, Drvivá Menšina, Zverina, DMS, Slipo, among others, in an all-out effort to pave the way to solidify rap music in Slovakia.

Into the present rap scene there are over a dozen of top Slovak rappers. The artist by the name of Rytmus is without a question one of the country’s largest stars and at the very top of the country’s hip hop hierarchy. Debuting in the early 2000s, the talent has not only led to longevity among the country’s rap scene, but also provided the opportunity to transform into other fields like acting.

Outside of Rytmus, other top Slovak rap artists have been the likes of Kali, an artist that has been the most consistent with over 10 years of releasing quality. Fan favorites like Separ, a vet of almost 20 years that has perfected multiple aspects of hip hop. Award winner and one of Slovakia bestselling artists in Majk Spirit, another veteran that helped built the foundation of Slovakia’s hip hop. The list continues with veterans and newcomers, with artists of international stardom and artists who have reached regional success, with artists of large fanbases and artists who are on the verge building a rap career.
